Snively Hot Springs is an excellent location to enjoy natural soaking on the bank of the Owyhee River that flows through colorful walls of the Owyhee River Canyon. This destination has gained the great attention because of the fantastic views from the pools and proximity to a highway.
The hot springs area is open year-round but late summer, fall and winter seasons work better because the springs pool can submerge with the river during spring runoff or when the dam release the water.
The very hot water of the source (up to 150 degrees Fahrenheit) emerges near the Owyhee Lake Road approximately 300 feet from the riverside and flows via a ditch to the 2-3 feet deep and 20 feet in diameter manually built rock pool, literally, into the river. The hot springs water mixes with the cold river water. Constant mixing with the hand is helpful to maintain an even temperature. The pool temperatures are different depending on the distance from the river or the source. You can find the perfect soaking temperature by changing your location in the pool.
The springs are situated on BLM land 12 miles below the Owyhee Dam and come with a big parking area, a pit toilet, and picnic table.
The Snively Hot Springs recreation area is a day-use only. No camping and fires are allowed at the site and, also, no glass containers could be used within 30 feet.
The high desert of Owyhee River Canyon is abbreviated by an attractive set of outdoor adventures including hiking, kayaking, rafting, fishing, hunting, horseback riding, and wildlife watching.
Caution. Watch poison oak along the river bank and around the parking area.
