Where: Astoria • Oregon • 97103
When: The first weeks of October annually
The Astoria Megler Bridge is a tremendous sight to behold anytime you drive across it. However, one day a year in the mid-October during the Great Columbia Crossing 10k Run/Walk event in Astoria, there is a unique opportunity to walk or run across the longest continuous truss bridge in North America. Usually, more than 2,000 walkers and runners participate in the event.
The first time this event was held in 1982. It was canceled only once in 2016 due to the hard weather conditions.
Though the bridge is about four miles (6.54 km) in length, the entire race route is six miles (10 km). The shuttle service takes registered participants to the Washington side, from where they run or walk to the Oregon side.
This is a two-hour family-friendly event for everyone. If you did not have a chance to cross the bridge to the end of the race, the shuttle service will pick you up.
